Severe Left Hip Pain
Posted: 08-23-06 23:02pm

Hi, my name is dave. I'm in florida. I'm 47 years old and have had a spinal fusion done on l-1 & l-2 joints in my back in 2004. I'm now having alot of problems with my hips, perticularly the left one. I just had an x-ray done on aug. 17th. Findings were as follows:
bones: on one of the projections there is a subtle lucency in the left femoral neck.
Joints: there is joint space irregularity & narrowing @ the inferior aspect of the left acetabular femoral joint. A small osteophyte is present in this region as well.
Soft tissues: small phlebolith present in the left side of the pelvis.

Impression: mri of the left hip is recommended for further evaluation of the left femoral neck & mild degeneration changes @ the left hip.

Can anyone explain this prognosis to me ???

Thanks in advance
dave

Sorry Dave, I Don't Have the Answer, But...

Isn't it interesting how doctors do this? They operate or tell us we have a new disease and they won't tell any details unless we have a list in front of us. Generally, I bring a note with me of all the questions I want to ask my doctor. Before your next visit to your doctor, go armed with a healthy set of notes. Be prepared. It will empower you, really! Perhaps here in the forum, people can help with some good questions. But you've already asked some good questions. Write them down and get ready to ask your doctor. Some medical clinics have a message service where they will leave an answer machine message of yours for your doctor. I hope this gives you some ideas dave and good luck. In the meantime. I know some friends who use a good antioxidant which has some great anti-inflamatory properties. I can't tell you to take a product like this. However, if you were my brother, I would suggest it. I would tell my brother to get the latest in a liquid health/antinflamatory product.

Great advice anastasiaje! I start a week ahead of my appointment and keep a word document open on my computer so no matter what I am doing during the day if I come up with a question, symptom, or treatment I can just run to the computer and type it in.

I don’t understand why but doctors are suckers! They can only spend 10 minuets with you no matter what is wrong with you and if you don’t understand their diagnosis they can’t spare the time to properly explain it to you!

Go in to your appointment not only with a list of questions but also with a large pad of blank paper so that you can write down exactly what he says… or, if you have the cash, get one of those little mp3 “tape” recorders so that you can play back exactly what he said to make notes later.

If you don’t understand a term and he doesn’t have time to explain then have him/her spell the word for you!! Then, when you get home, you can google or dogpile it for details.

I made a notebook for my grandmother and grandfather that had dividers for each of their doctors, sheets where they can write questions, an appointment calendar, an emergency contact sheet, business card holders, prescription and vitamin/herbal supplement list… the works… so when they walked into a new doctor’s office she could just hand the doctor the notebook and say “these are all the treatments I am undergoing, all the med’s I am taking, and all the other doctors I am seeing and what they have diagnosed me with!”

then there is no way that there can be a medication mix up or treatments that interfere with each other…

i am talking to my cousin who is an emt on what a doctor/emergency room nurse/emt would appreciate you to have to make your treatment as easy and complication free as possible… when I get it done I will post some pages for download! I don’t know when I will have the time to finish but I am working on it slowly bur surly.

Also, here is a great yahoo! 360 group I found! It is called surfacehippy and though it seems to focus on hip resurfacing patients, it is for anyone that has hip “issues”. Their website is: http://health .Groups.Yahoo.Com/group/surfacehippy/ and their email is: surfacehippy@ yahoogroups.Com

i have met a lot of very understanding people and it feels really good to share our stories!

I hope you get the answers you need friend! Try the yahoo group… someone there has to know what all ^that means! Also, there are dozens of new posts a day… it is almost like a chat room instead of a forum so there is always someone there to talk to!
