Being looked after by their parents, so they develop a strong sense of self and confidence.

Until they are old enough for pre-school, so they can learn interaction with other kids.

What do you actually want...What's best or what's easiest?

For what's best, I concur with kia - parental care is what a child needs and there is no substitute. For the easiest route, dump the kids in your mother's lap and go about your life as normal. At least that way, you won't need to waste money on a nanny because grandma is always the free babysitter.

Thats a bit harsh girls. Some mothers need to go out to work to earn money and it is impossible to stay at home with the kids.

To the original poster, I think you should take a tour of your local nursery. There are pro's and cons for each option. Nursery provides a stimulating educational experience but the child doesn't get one to one attention whereas a nanny gives the child full attention but may not give such an educational experience.

You need to look at both situations real carefully. Do you want your child to be educated or to be given lots of attention...

Oh becks I didn't say that.

The question was "what is best?" so the answer was what I perceive to be best.

Yes, some women do have to go back to work quite early.
If a woman has to go back to work, then the next best is for the child to be cared for by a responsible, close family member.
Failing that, the next best is for the child to be looked after by a qualified, registered person in the childs own home if they are below pre-school age.
If they are of pre-school age then, for most kids, pre-school is a chance to learn interaction with other children.

But to the generalised question of what is best - a mothers love and care is best.
