This question will probably get moved to baby q&a or baby milestones. I don't think there is a 'right' time to wean a child but if there was I would guess around the time they start to get teeth!

It depends on the child.. My sister began weaning her son at about 4 months coz he was so hungry all the time and couldn't have lasted the recommended 6 months solely on breastmilk! She stopped breastfeeding completely just after he turned 6 months, and now he's on baby food, cereal and formula milk.

your cousin should educate herself on parenting if she doesnt even know the answer to such a simple question....Im not trying to be rude but seriously come on! Buy her a parenting book or theres lots of feeding babies/toddlers books about. Like kia mentioned her health visitor, she should have gone through all this kind of stuff with her at the clinic or home visits. The recommended age to wean is between 4 and 6 months. I tried mine on baby rice mixed with breastmilk at 4 months and he was so ready for it. You'll know if he/she is ready by how interested they are in the food. Second thing I tried lucas on was mashed banana -healthy and easy to swallow. That doesnt mean stop the milk and feed them 3 meals a day, you start off with once a day and work upto more food less milk slowly....Honestly she should get a book on it and ask the health visitor.

My aunt breastfed my cousin .Daniel until he was 3 1/2 years old. We were at a family reunion and I was sitting on the couch with .Daniel. I think he was around 4 at the time. Well, out of nowhere he shoves his hand down the front of my shirt! I freaked out and my aunt said "oh, he does that when he's tired." excuse me?! Get your son's hand out of my boobs, please!

I will *not* breastfeed my daughter that long. It's disturbing. I can just imagine getting a phone call from .Aly's pre-k teacher saying she was molested by my little girl around naptime... :(

see that is exactly why these women are nutty! Breastfeeding a baby that long is sickening. Especially because at that age they can realize that boobs are a sexual thing and such. Sick sick sick. Honestly if I was breastfeeding I wouldnt go past 9 months.
Some women even admitted that their 3 and 4 year olds dont even nurse cause theyre hungry, they do it for emotional reasons like for comfort and to" feel close to mommy". One woman said her child asks if he can "suck her boobie" and she does in public! God that is messed up!

My cousin just stopped breastfeeding my little cousin ..And he is almost two(october)...Which I thought was perfectly normal ..Because he is now fully off the boob..And at that young of an age they arent really to the point of actually knowing those things...Not saying he isnt close because he is getting old enough to start learning new things ..But everyone is different when it comes to things like that..I know myself that I wouldnt breastfeed over a year...But that doesnt mean everyone else should think the same as me...All doctors and books will say different ages..But in the end it depends on what the mother thinks and feels...But I wish your cousin luck..Its a very hard process ..Jace is a little over a year and he still loves milk ..But he also eats plenty of food...

:)

ew!

When I was a lifeguard/swim instructor 2 summers ago, there was a chick that would have to come to her kid's swim lessons cause she still breastfed him. He would just walk over to her, say "momma, i'm hungry" and lift up her shirt and go to town. He was in the class I taught, and so he was probably about 5. It was soo disturbing!

Yeah, in the .U.K. It is recommended that you exclusively breastfeed for the first 6 months and then begin weaning with things such as baby rice and runny porridge. However, from personal experience i've found that a lot of mums wean their baby at around 4 months. I began weaning my son at around 4 months because he was like permanently attached to my breast! He needed more than I could provide. Little fudbucket.

I agree that it's sickening how some parents still breastfeed their kids at ages of three, four, and higher. I have read stories of women who were still breastfeeding their children at age nine. I wonder if mommy had to go to the school and nurse her kid during recess. Just...Eww. After a child is at least a year old, I consider breastfeeding to be pedophilia...And I do know there are some women who actually get off to breastfeeding because some women do enjoy having their breasts and nipples stimulated. And don't anyone give me any crap about this because I know very well it's true...It's just disturbing that women will secretly use their children for sexual relief and disguise it as harmless nursing.
