Q: Should I request an MRI?
asked by: DoctorQuestion on August 21st, 2006
I was in a car accident about a year and a half ago. I had an MRI and EEG for seizures.

The neurologist, who was very bad, said there was a (insert word here I cannot recall...) and it usually didn't appear until people were having Alzheimers. It was something like a plaque and it had to do with Myelin.

Since I was only a little over 18 then, MS was not a question...

I was looking online after I saw an uncle who is a chronic narcoleptic sufferer pertaining to his disease. I found MS having similar sleep issues. Ones which I share. I further looked and saw that I also have night blindness, color issues, weird pain and tingling, seizures with unfounded cause, bad recall in STM and LTM, disorientation, complete inability to understand things for about a year now, and depression.

I have random other symptoms as well and looking over this, I am really concerned.

Should I go request an MRI from my dr? I don't have medical insurance and don't want to be seen as a hypochrondiac, but everything I have looked at MATCHES what I have...

How would I approach my dr?

-Hallee

Multiple sclerosis can be confirmed or excluded with an MRI (or CT-scan) and cerebral-spinal liquor analyses. On the MRI-image there must be cicatrix plagues present in the white substance of the brain in order to confirm MS. Additionally, anti-myelin antibodies have to be detected in the liquid analyses. You can visit a neurologist for an expert opinion and medical care.
