Birth control pills have side effects but they don’t occur in all women with the same intensity. Here are some of the side effects:
1. Increased risk for thrombo-embolic diseases. This risk is especially high in women who smoke;
2. Mild hypertension (in 2.5% of cases);
3. Depression, somnolence and mood swings;
4. Increased pigmentation of the skin (especially when exposed to sun);
5. Weight gain due to increased appetite and anabolic effects.
6. Nausea, vomiting;
7. Headache, and
8. Increased vaginal discharge.
