Q: Painful Lump Behind Ear

4 days ago I noticed a very painful lump behind my right ear.

It begins two finger widths behind the lobe, and sits on the bone there behind the ear. It is very painful and the pain radiates all over the side of my head. Over the past few days it has grown in size and the pain has increased. I've noticed a change in my hearing as well. I thought it was an infected gland or lymphnode... But due to the pain I went to see my doctor.

They've started me on nova-cloxin and they scheduled a parotid ultrasound? I thought the parotid gland was in the cheek? What could this be if not an infected gland? How much can an ultrasound really show? The big "c"?
