Q: Jaw Disintegrating, Please Advise

Hello, i'm new here and have an awful problem with my jaw. I saw a so-called specialist about this, but he said he can't do anything for me until I fix the cavities in my teeth. My dentist says she cannot fix my teeth because every time she tries to, my jaw locks open and she has to 'wiggle' it closed again.
Now my teeth don't line up right anymore. When I bite, my lower front teeth hit up against the underside of my upper front teeth. Is this retrusion? I've heard that word before and I know it isn't a good thing but I wasn't sure if that's what this is. I have a hard time getting anyone to take me seriously about my health problems. I am just short of 28, and doctors have told me repeatedly that I don't have any problems. I am just tired and anxious from the children, they say. My husband swears i'm a hypochondriac and that's the full extent of my issue, but I know that can't be true. Hypochondriacs can chew, i'm living off of yogurt. Pudding too, but that doesn't offer much.
Anyone else have a shrinking jaw? Is there a way to fix it? All replies welcome and thanks in advance.

Welcome Frostline!
Maaybe you should see another tmj specialist or aa new dentist, a second opinion never hurts and you have that right!
Good luck!

I'm with sandyallen here. See another dentist or tmj specialist. It is amazing and shameful how medical people treat tmj patients.

I wouldn't say that your jaw is shrinking. It sounds more like your bite is off. This can be caused by having dental work done in your mouth, grinding/clenching your teeth at night, etc.

I hope and pray that you will find the right people to help you. And I have to interject - no tmj surgery of any kind. That opens up even more problems.

God bless...
Carol
