Q: Water?

It's been proven drinking 8 cups of water a day is no myth. But being retrospective, I only tended to drink during meals. Because of a korean upbringing, I tend to eat and enjoy spicy food. As it's too hot I drink like 2 cups of water then.
My mom says drinking while you eat is bad and makes you fatter ;;; I was just wondering if I should or should not do it
