Hi three weeks ago I had the mirena coil fitted for treatment of symptoms of friboids. It was very painful, not sure if this was because of the fiboids or if others have had this experience. I have only had two days of not bleeding since this aswell... Im giving it ago for another 3months and then I go back to gyni, but am very scared incase it has not worked, I do not want the pain of having it removed....Help.....

It seems to be pretty standard that the mirena coil is prescribed for fibroids. As are birth control pills. Something with the hormones and having less lining in the uterus...

I have not had a coil but i've read enough to understand insertion can be painful for some women. Have you had children? It can be more painful for those who haven't had children.

Why would you consider having it removed in 3 months? Have you tried taking regular birth control pills to control symptoms?

They should have explained to you that you may have irregular and everday bleeding and spotting for up to 6-9 months...

Usually after that many women lose their periods completely.

Coil and Fibriods
Hi

I have had 3 children and was sterilised in August 2007. Since then I have had 2 periods, one lasting 14 days and another lasting 21 days, doc prescribed tranexamic acid tabs to stop bleeding, which worked. Have been for an internal exam today and doc says uterus is unusually large and suspects fibriod(s). I am waiting for an appt to go for an ultrasound.

Doc said treatment would probably be contraceptive pill or a coil. I am not happy about any of these treatment options as the whole point of being sterlised what that I would not need any more contraception.

Anyone any advice?

Thanks
Lou
