New Breast Cancer Patient Posted: 08-17-06 13:55pm
Hi everybody! I'm a new member to the
site and I am wondering if anyone has ever
heard of an incident of breast cancer
caused by depo-provera use. I was
recently diagnosed with aggressive cancer
in my left breast and I am totally
shocked! I have had a yearly mammogram
since I was 35 (am now 46). I started a
new job, and (stupidly) let my year date
slip by. So I was actually 11 months
past my due mammogram date. They started
me on chemo immediately to shrink the
tumor (6cm). While I was beating myself
up over skipping my mammogram, the Dr.
Told me that it's such a fast growing
cancer, that it may not have shown on the
x-ray the previous year.
Here's the kicker...There is no evidence
of any kind of cancer in my family
history. If there were, I would not have
let the test go by. I am going crazy
trying to figure out where this all came
from. I quit smoking in 1998, but my Dr.
Said this is caused more by a hormone
problem. Someone told me they thought
there was a connection between breast
cancer and depo.
Anyone hear of this? If so, please
respond. If this is the case, someone
needs to go after the manufacturer of this
drug.
Thanks for your support.

Dear tessarahormonal use can increase the
risk of breast cancer. It doesn’t mean
that your cancer was caused by hormone
use.
