My father was diagnosed with lung cancer in january. They successfully removed the tumor and right lobe of the lung. As a follow up in july, my father received another pet scan. Hot spots came up in his lymph nodes and lining of his lung. He went from a stage 1 to a stage 111b within 6 months.
after speaking with his oncologist, they recommended chemo, but not radiation because his lungs are in bad shape. They will do a combo of taxol and carboplatin. Please let me know of alternatives since he will not undergo radiation along with chemotherapy.
Also, sloan kettering doctors are questioning some of the hot spots on the pet scan. 2 of the 6 doctors feel some of the spots may be scar tissue from surgery. They want to review his original cat scan (pre surgical) and compare it to the new one. Do you know anything about pet scans and scar tissue?
thank you,
kate
