Q: Low Platelets Due to Poor Diet?

My mother had a blood test and found she has a low platelet count. She has a very poor diet, would that contribute to low platelet production? If so what can we get or give her to get her platelets up again?
Many thanks for any replies

Were all the rest of her blood values within the normal range?
I have heard of some chemo patients getting prednisone to raise their platelet levels but of course the doctor needs to decide if it is bad enough to warranet that. I do not know of any food that will increase platelets.

I know a guy who has a blood disorder called TTP. I forget what the real name of it is but one of the primary sypmtoms is a low platelet count. Maybe you should have her check it out? It's a very rare disease though. Good luck

ITP!
Hi there,
I was actually looking around to see what information was out there on people with ITP using Transfer Factor and stumbled upon this website.

ITP is an auto-immune definiciency disorder which makes your body destroy your own platelets. In other words, a bleeding disorder. I was diagnosed with ITP at the age of 16. It's most common in children where it usually goes away between 6 weeks and 6 months, but it does occur in adults as well where it usually is a chronic condition. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but there is no known cause for ITP, and therefore, there really is no cure. There are several different treatments including Prednisone (corticosteroids), WinRho and IVIG (blood fusions), and others including splenectomy (removal of the spleen) for the most extreme cases. IIP can usually be identified by low platelet counts, but also includes: bruising easily, petikiai (little red dots on the skin), and fatigue. If you do have ITP, or you have a friend who may have ITP, try to get them to see a hemotologist, it'll help. it's the platelet disorder support association. THis organization was started by a woman with ITP, and it really was a lifesaver during the first years since my diagnosis because of all the information and resources available.

I also want to give a word of advice, I had taken Prednisone, done different blood fusion treatments, and was even at the risk of having my spleen removed until I started using natural medicine. Now, I'm not saying that the Prednisone didn't work on occassion, but I was really done with having crazy side effects. I'm also not saying every natural medicine works because I tried a lot of different ones that didn't, but then I found Transfer Factor. I currently take Transfer Factor and have been in remission since I started taking it two years ago. It is an amazing product, and if you would like more information feel free to write me.

My platelet level went to 20,000- hematologist started me on prednisone- only worked 1 week- on searching the net I found this site-www.springerlink.com/index/E441336770 115046.pdf

I started eating salmon(which I love!) and platelet count went up to over 100,000! When i go off salmon diet, level drops.
hope this helps
