I had surgery on 6/18/06. I had 3 shunt adjustments. I don't have the headaches anymore but I still am a little light headed and also I have this "noise" in my head. Or I guess "ringing" in my ears.To anyone that has had this surgery, did you or do you still have this problem and if so did it go away on its own or did you just need further shunt adjustments.

Thanks for any info.

Problem After Shunt Surgery
I read your message, I was wondering if you had this done because of tinnintus? I have had that since 1994 and I have been to doctor after doctor and no one can help me, I am at my ropes end and I need help ,as I have had this noise in my right ear and I can apply pressure on my neck and stop it for a short time.. Please reply

Wow!!!! My daughter has had a shunt since 6mths old.She has had three revisions also. Just on 8/7/07 was her most recently.like before she had been having some bad headaches that they always treat as miagrains be fore the storm.Only this time she heard the ringing and had back ache. They where running test and finding no malfunction while in the hospital she started having seiziures which prompt to emergency surgery. To find out the shunt did malfuntion and the fluid was building up. Causing her to have these headaches and ringing. I hope and pray that she dont have to go through this again.Hope they find a test to show shunt malfunction. She is a bright B honor roll student and looks 100% .u cant tell she has a shunt.I hope this had been some help to you.U can PM me.Lets keep in touch.

re problems after shunt surgery
Hi my dad had a shunt fitted about 15 weeks ago and had lots of headaches still afterwards. it's taken some time but he's just had a new one fitted again as the fisrt one blocked. this time he is terrible he's lost a lot of use from his arms and has funny sensations down the front of his legs, he's also very sweaty around his forehead,we weren't really told much when we left hospital so don't know if he will get back to normal. he also has funny sensations in his head he calls them surges or like small electric shocks they happen many times an hour. would be intersted to hear from you again or anyone who's had problems with shunts

SHUNT SURGERY
Mandy I would like to know if they find out what is causing the surges as well since I have the same problem. I had my last shunts replaced one on the 16th and then they had to do it again on the 17th coincidentally these two were also my 16th and 17th shunt placements. My headaches are starting to improve a little bit but didn't go away at all in the 15th one in september of '06 please keep posted. Others have mentioned lightheadedness here as well I get that and it does go away and for me at least it never really has gone away completely and I've been dealing with this since my birth in 87.

Since the shunt replaced he has had no further surges or headaches but he has had other problems to do with the brain stem but we dont think these were related to the shunt.
If you need to know anything else dont hesitate to ask.
