An Interesting Idea I Had Posted: 08-15-06 21:12pm
I was watching law and order, and they
persecuted a doctor for inseminating
comatose women, so he could abort the
fetuses and use them for stem cell
research. Now, obviously i'm not for
inseminating comatose women! However, I
do think it might be a neat I dea for
women who are going to abort to be able to
donate the fetus to stem cell research! I
know a lw like that could never get passed
in america though... But it could be very
healing for young women who abort because
they're not ready for children, too poor,
still in school, etc, to know that they
were still helping in some way; that the
life of the fetus wasn't totaly wasted.
Abortion is a waste of a human life; and
through donation to research, it could be
made useful in death.

I think the idea is a good one in theory
but I think it would be a situation ripe
for corruption. It could be that women
would be pressured into having an abortion
by unscrupulous doctors who would stand to
gain financially from the stem cell
research. Also, such a law may be seen
as encouraging abortions and what
government is going to be willing to take
that
on?
The whole area of stem cell research is
such a touchy subject - I personally know
people that would greatly benefit from
stem cell treatment should it become
available to them and yet I find it really
hard to come to terms with the fact that,
what is in my opinion, a human being would
have to be killed in order for that to
happen. However, I wouldn't dream of
trying to prevent them from having the
treatment. Who am I to try and stop them
being released from a life of misery?
However, I think it will happen
eventually. It is not in human nature
to stop progression, whatever the
consequences. That will probably be our
downfall. But hey, at least the
c-ockroaches will get a shot then...
(lol - c-ockroaches came out as
penisroaches!!!!!!! Now that
is a creature you really don't want to
find in your kitchen!!!!)

I know the chance for corruption would be
there, but in an intitution that is
already devoted to safely killing fetuses,
I think there should at least be an option
for the mother. Besides, how many local
practitioners are actively involved in
stem cell research, and how many ob-gyn's
are involved directly, in such a fashion
as would make them force their own
patients to abort instead of give birth?

From what I have been told and read,
though, the problem is that the stem cells
used in research cannot be from a usual,
"normal" pregnancy. They have to be
created in a test tube and then closely
monitored. However, since there is a law
against creating new stem cells, the cells
being studied are from the early 90's. A
more viable option would be for couples
who go through .I.V.F to donate the
embryo's that they do not implant because
those will have been created, monitored,
and then frozen near the correct stage.
I think it is a good idea if it could
occur but scientists can't even use the
embryo's that couples, themselves, wish to
donate so I doubt it will ever happen.

I know, I just wish there were more
options.

Eiri I think that is an awesome idea, it
would benefit human kind in a way but like
some of the girls said could be corrupted
pretty easy, dr could start telling ppl
their pregnancy is byond endagered when it
isnt.
If only more ppl had common sense

Yes; common sense is something this world
seriously lacks.
