Patch Vs. Depo Shot/unsure Decision Posted: 08-15-06 10:03am
I was just wondering about the topic.
....I am 20yr female about 126 lbs. I
have mitrovalve prolapse. I've never been
on birth control before. I want the shot
only because it seems a lot easier than
remembering to take a pill everyday. I'm
sure I wouldn't forget something that
though if I was on it. But, after reading
one post on here about the depo shot and
how most woman aren't happy with it, i'm
second guessing my decision. I haven't
gotten the shot yet. Won't start it til
next month. I know that if I am not happy
with the shot I can change to something
else. I guess, i'm just a little scared,
nervous, worried about the whole thing.
I've never really had any female friends
or family to talk to about it so i'm
unsure about a lot of things. I know I
should ask at the clinic, but when I am
there I complete choak up or forget to ask
any questions. I'm nervous about him
"letting it go" in me. I don't know.
*nods* I don't know. Any info or
experiences would help...Thanks.

There are differences between all types of
contraception, the main one between
depo/patch is that depo is a progesterone
only contaceptive (as with the mini pill
and mirena/ius) and are good for women
(such as myself) who canot tolerate the
estrogen hromone in combined
contraceptives. However, I personally
wasn't happy with the injection it does
work for many woman. If you're unsure
about it then i'd say try something else
first
(i'm not sure how your prlapse relates to
any of this though but i'm sure the clinic
do!!)

I understand your indecision about the
different types of birth controll.
The best advise I can give you is to do
your research and ask your doctor losts of
questions, trust me they don't mind....
It is your body and the more you know
about what you are putting into it the
better
depo is good if you don't plan on having
children any time soon ( it takes at least
a year after you stop your injections
before your body can recooperate to start
ovulating)
i personaly decided to use the pills and
then switched to the ring. I tried the
shot once... That was a complete
nightmare... I had some serious issues
with it and even though I only had one
shot I did not have my period for 6
months. There have been several articles
about the patch as well about it having
more instances of it causing clots in
women and of course if you are over weight
it is not as effective....
Good luck with what ever decision you
make.

Thank you guys. ^_^ I feel a lot more
comfortable just knowing about you guys
took and have been through with them. I
want to start with the shot only because I
am 20 and am not planning on having an
children any time soon. I know if I don't
mind the depo's effects, I will eventually
switch over to something like the
patch...Or maybe even the pill. Someday.
*shakes it off* but thank you for helping
me out. I feel much better now. ^_^

My advise for you would be not to get the
shot, I was on it for two years and hated
it, I didn't have a period the whole time
I was on it and now that I have been off
of it for a year and been ttc with no luck
and hardly any periods. It causes alot of
trouble with the body, it has messed mine
completly up. But then again that's just
me. I am curently taking bcp just to get
my body use to haveing a period and until
I get married, I want to be able to wear
the dress of my dreams. And as for the
patch I would recommoned it either I know
tooo many people that got pregnant on the
patch. But it's your body you take what
you want.
