Hi
i am due to start lamictal on wednesday. What is it like for others on it? I ask this because I have been on tegretol before and it didnt work. I also have been on keppra and was taken off that slowly. I was on 2000mg a day of keppra,
i am currently on 2400mg a day of epilim ( sodium valproate ) and I am being introduced to lamictal slowly on 25mg tablets until I am up to 100mgs morning and night. Over a 3month period. Till I see my neurologist again.
My seizures are not controlled. If anyone on lamictal could let me know how they felt when begining this drug I would be glad to hear from you.

Hi sami,

i have been taking lamictal for approx 4 years now and they seem to be doing the trick.

I too, tried tegretol at first and it didnt work.

I then went onto epilim and was on 2000 per day. It stopped my fits but eventually I put a lot of weight on and my hormones went haywire!

The lamictal has made me lose alot of the weight and I am still losing it (its great!!)

i have posted about a recent fit I had on friday (my first in 15 years)
i have been told by the chemist that the herbs ginseng and ginkgo biloba that were in the vitamins I have been taking may have been the cause. Not only are these proconvulsents but they also stop lamictal working so I would recommend that you avoid them at all costs Wink

the lamictal dont have many side effects and they dont make you as drowsy as the epilim. I did find it pretty scary at first as because the epilim make you so spaced out, you start to see things in a different and more clearer way. All very good but quite a strange feeling.

If you need any further advice or support, give me a shout

good luck xx
