No, they are performed to remove pregancy tissue from the womb or gynaecological d&c's are used to investigate heavy periods/vaginal bleeding following a womans menopause.

I should be doing a dnc next tuesday because of heavy periods, but am I to understand that thats caused by miscarriage or something to do with pregnancy. Could I have lost a child and not know?????

What are the side effects of dnc? My doc says she cant discuss over the phone but im so anxious to get all the details. I think if they're gonna fix one problem to create another, then it make no sense. But, having long periods, heavy bleeding and chafing can be veeeeeery stressful, so can someone give the details on this dnc thing that is supposed to rescue me from my ever stressful period life please!!!!????!!!!!???

Sorry ladies but it isn't and "dnc" it is a "d&c"
it stands for dilation and cutterage.

They dilate the cervix and remove a layer of the uterine lining. (well, that's the basic of it, obviously it isn't quite that black and white)

So, are you saying that there's no side effects?
