Heartburn!!
Posted: 08-14-06 11:20am

Hey ladies!
I have been having horrible heartburn since 6 weeks. Im now in my 16 weeks and this is really starting to agrivate me. It seems like everything I eat or drink turns into heartburn or acid reflux. I dont know what to do to get any relief. My doctor prescribe me zantac but it only worked for a couple of weeks so im guessing my body go ammuned to it, quick! Maalox doesnt work either.

Is there anyone out there had this same problem and got in under control?? I will be grateful for any suggestions!!

Thanks,
alexa

I went through the exact same thing and ended up on prescription, one condition before the precribe is that you tried zantac for over a month as it does take time to finally start working.

I was talking gaviscon then went to maalox with zantac and tums anyways I got a precription of losec or prilosec (in the states) and it worked after about 1 1/2 weeks after using it..

Talk to your dr cause I know some ppl cant take it but the stuff worked miracles but cost me about 57$/per month

Are you sure that the heartburn is cause by too much acid in your stomach? Sometimes heartburn can be caused by too little acid in your stomach...And the food isn't broken down as it should and it causes a gas buildup which in turn causes the heart burn and acid reflux...And by taking zantax, maalox, tums etc can agrivate the problem because it neutralises the little bit of acid you do have in your stomach , so when the medicine wears off what happens is the stomach works overtime and produces more acid much more than your stomach need...Hence causing a more severe heartburn.

To find out if your stomach is not producing enough acid you can take a teaspoon of vinegar/lime/lemon juice or a glass of orange juice and if it feels better then you know you are not producing enough acid....If the reflux stays the same or gets worse then you know you have too much acid.

this is only true with calcium antacids. Not zantac or prilosec or previcid.
Many people build a tolerance to zantac that is why it stops working. Prilosec, previcid, and zegerid are the most effective for reflux.

Tea actually made mine sooo much worse!!

Girl, I had heartburn the entire pregnancy!!! It sucked soooooo bad I would actually cry. I drank, literally, a gallon of milk a day. (it was my craving and the reason for my stretch marks) I had to have vitamin d whole milk!!! And I still got heartburn.

I never went anywhere without my extra strength rolaids!! Yummmm!!! They saved my life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then my .Dr put me on zantac 150. But I prefered my rolaids. They dissovled quick and they were yummy!! I got the fresh mint kind!

Towards the end, I had to eat/drink no less than an hour before bed or it would shoot right back up!!! Horrible. I'd be sleeping and !!!!!Wham!!!!!! Up comes my water. It was horrible!!!!!!

Even during labor I had heartburn. I thought I was gonna puke when I was pushing!! But it was allll good. After I had her, it was craaazy to be able to eat then sleep!!!!!!! On my belly to boot!!

I had really bad heartburn during the last 20 weeks of my pregnancy. I went from really bad morning sickness for 20 weeks right into the heartburn from hell!! I totally understand your pain - I cryed too. I tried many, many things and never did get a handle on it. The .Previcid probably worked the best for me. I became immune to the zantac as well. One good thing, it went away the minute my daughter was born!! I did find that liquid ant-acid seemed to work a bit better than tablets (of the otc types) take care, I hope you're feeling better soon!
