I'm a smoker and there's a chance I might be pregnant but its too early to test. In case I am pregnant should I stop smoking now? Or can I wait till I know for sure? Will it hurt the baby even if it is so early?

I know that it's hard to do but you really must give up the smoking now - you increase your risk of miscarriage and the baby has a higher chance of dying from cot death if you smoke during pregnancy. These are just two of the many complications that smoking during pregnancy can cause.

Even if you end up not being pregnant, just think how much better your own health will be if you've given up - and the money you will save. I understand that it's not an easy thing to do but there is a lot of help and support out there for people who want to give up.

Good luck!!!

Its best to quit asap. I smoked also and it is really hard to quit but it is better for you and yes your baby also. There is alot of people that I know that smoked through out there whole pregnancy and their babys are fine and 8 pounders and very very smart. So your not ignorant some people just dont understand they just think they know but they dont because they have never smoked or got addicted to smoking. Its best to quit cold turkey when you do think it time to quit. Just take you time because when I quit it was really hard and I put more stress on myself and the baby quitting then I would have smoking. Do what you think is best. Good luck!

smoking is bad at all times for you and thus it isnt good for the baby either....Your baby would not be mentally challenged if you smoked a few while pregnant but you should either drastically cut down or try to quit now...Good luck...

Umm, smoking is not worth it, &.I wouldn't necessarily say you have to quit right this second, but .I'd at least make an effort to cut down as best you can until you can test.

If you suspect you're pregnant then it's definately best to stop smoking as soon as you can. I know it's difficult but your doctor can help you to quit. Good luck

I used to be a smoker! I quit smoking immediately when I found out I was pregnant. There was a little concern for the previous weeks where I was puffing away, but my doctor told me not to worry about it. The important factor is that I stopped and you should too! Its really easy to stop...Just picture your child suffocating, its disturbing and more than enough motivation to put the cancer sticks down! Even when I wasn't pregnant I saw a pregnant girl smoking a cigarette...I actually had the balls to go up to her and take her cigarette from her...Its selfish to make your child breathe in something that's dangerous...I'm repulsed by it now and I will not go back to it.

Nicely said pixie :) my cousin smoked all through her pregnancy and her baby girl was born on time (40 weeks) but at only 5 pounds and had many other complications.... A few cigarettes doesn't seem worth it to me...

Re: Question.
Yes, there maybe be a baby inside of you, but smoking is so much more worth it. Good luck.[/quote]

smoking is never worth the pain you "might" have to go through. My dad was just told by his doctor that his legs will have to be amputated, because his arteries have hardened from smoking. It's irreversable, he can't do anything to make it better. He is on blood thinners, has to get shots everyday, ride a wheelchair if he's going in public if he has to do a lot of walking. He also has to wear special shoes, etc. He has since quit smoking and says he feels better than ever, but is still going through all that and will have to for the rest of his life.

He's only 39 (been smoking since he was 12), but that's pretty young to go through all that, in my opinion. I know that has nothing to do with being pregnant, but I would never encourage anyone to smoke. It's not fun watching him go through all this pain.

Doctor's say it's best to quit when you get pregnant, I think I would take their advice and atleast try to quit. I do, however, know many people who have smoked through a pregnancy and everything was fine though.

Exactly what I thought.

I also forgot to mention...That my sister thought it was cool for my dad to smoke so followed in his footsteps. Now, she has cervical cancer and smoking has made it somewhat worse. My dad feels like it's his fault because he has to watch his daugher to through that too. It's not his fault but he feels that way.

I just want people to know that even though it might make you feel good at that moment, it could have bad consequences. It doesn't always turn out bad when you smoke, but it could, and I don't think i'd want to take that chance. Maybe there's something that could be an alternative and that you would like equally.

My best friend's mom [&a second mother to me] just died of lung cancer.
She was only 45. It's sad. She'll never get to see her daughter get married.
Or have kids. Or see her grandchildren. Or live alone with her husband.
It's so awful. I hate thinking about it.

just a little fyi about nataliachick...Shes rude all the time to everyone. She calls other peoples babies "retards" to make or stress her point...She is tactless and think she knows whats best for everyone elses babies because her"dr" told her so...Or a book told her so.....So there is having moments and then there is just being a completely useless person to this forum.
