Q: On Antibiotics Now, Should I Even Try Getting On the Pill?

I want to get on the pill but I take antibiotics daily. I know that taking antibiotics lowers the effect of birth control pills and they say to use another precaution (like condoms) with the pill. Should I not even bother wasting my time getting on the pill then since I use condoms now anyway? Is there any point at all to get on the pill then?

Well do you ever plan on getting off these antibiotics? You could just start taking the pill for your body to get used to it, and so you'll be used to taking it. You could always talk to a doctor and ask if that specific antibiotic would have any effect on the the pill. There's always a risk of getting pregnant with just using condoms, especially if you use them wrong, and I assume you use them correctly. But pills and condoms are good extra protection if you really don't want to get pregnant. But if you think you can use condoms alone and not get pregnant, then go ahead. But I wouldn't. (my momma did and she got pregnant with me or one of my siblings hehe......But she used the condoms wrong)

I have to be on antibiotics for another 6 months. I found out I was a positive reactor for tb (i took an x-ray and it shows no sign of infection or syptoms) and the antibiotic is for a just a precaution. I just wanted to stop using condoms because of multiple reasons, (plus he hates them 2) so I was trying for the pill cuz I was on depo but didn't like it. I just don't know if its any point at all to get on the pill if its not effective with the antibiotic......I don't have any insurance, thats why I havent gotten a doctors opinion.....

well then just wait until you stop taking the antibiotics and then get on the pill, but keep using condoms until then.
