Q: Pregnancy And Weight Loss...

Hi. I'm new to the forum, but I am looking for some answers. I am 99% sure that i'm pregnant. I haven't tested yet, but my periods are very regular and I have skipped 2. I will be going to the doctor very soon. I am recently married and happy to be pregnant but I do have a major concern... I have been trying to lose weight and I fear that now I will gain even more weight. I wanted to lose weight before I got pregnant, but, well... Sometimes you can't control these things!! What I am wondering is... Is it safe to remain on a diet while you are pregnant and how likely is it that you will not gain much weight during your pregnancy? I already struggle with my weight and I am afraid that after the baby comes it will be even harder to lose. Please help if anyone has struggled with this also. Thanks.

Hi it is not safe to diet during pregnancy so please don't do it! Your baby needs lots of nutrients so you should mantain a healthy and balanced diet. You need to do a test to make sure you are pregnant too.

It is normal to gain around 2- 2 1/2 stone (up to 35 lbs) but every woman varies. I put on about 21 pounds with each pregnancy but lost it all within 4 weeks of the birth.

You can be concerned about losing the weight after your baby is born. For now just enjoy being pregnant (if you are) and your amazing changing body.

I agree with beck... Just make sure you get all the food you need to keep you and your baby healthy.. And lose weight after the birth. Breast feeding helps you lose weight, by the way, if you're interested in doing that.

I have no idea, it just said so in my book. Hehe. But i've researched it...

"while you're pregnant, your body automatically layers on extra fatty tissue so you'll have enough fat stores to begin and support breastfeeding. After you have your baby, however, if what you eat is varied and well balanced, breastfeeding can help you lose your pregnancy weight without compromising either your health or your baby's by dieting. And you naturally burn calories to make breast milk every time you nurse."

yup it does help you loose weight when nursing your baby and can even stop you from haven period but not for every one.I lost all my weight from 3 years ago and going to breastfeed this one 2 I nursed all my kids..

Please! I kept that hip fat (which is where women store fat for breast feeding, by the way) until I weened my daughter.

You burn more calories while you breast feed, that is true, but you also have to eat more calories - or feel like you are starving. I was hungrier when I was nursing that I was when I was pregnant. ;)

but i'm the kind of person who gets a positive pregnancy test and gains 20 lbs as soon as the line shows up.
