Hello,

thanks to any and all who read this and can give some input. I was previously taking alesse and the breakthrough bleeding was getting ridiculous (sometimes it would start 2 weeks before I was due to be menstruating) so my doctor switched me to ortho-tri-cyclen lo. I was told that possible side effects of switching would include a worsening in my headahces, some breakthrough bleeding the first month, weight gain, acne, etc.

Anyways about 2 weeks into the pack I lost a pill due to a vomiting spell within 2 hours of having taken it (hurray for undercooked meat). My partner and I always use condoms during intercourse but unfortunately one broke one night around a week after the lost pill incident. I have been on my "off-week" for about 4 days now and I still have not gotten my period. No signs, no spotting, nothing, where before I would always have some light spotting and then my flow. The only indications I have are the very swollen and tender breasts and my regular pre-or during menstrual headaches.

Is it normal to experience later periods when switching to a higher dose pills? Or is this a sign of something I should be worrying about and testing for?

Thank you again,

-aliera

Whenever you miss a pill on lo dose pills you will bleed. I'm on lutera (generic of alesse) they told me to wait 2 weeks before having unprotected sex. I waited a month but I missed one and had unprotected sex 2 times around the same time. I wasn't pregnant. I think you should be fine just keep taking all the pills. If you switched pills you body may still be adjusting, I usually get my period on my 4th inactive pill but everyone is different. You may not even get a period and that doesnt mean your pregnant it happens sometimes. I would make a gyno appointment if you don;t get it within the next 3 days. They can take a blood test which can tell a lot earlier if you are pregnant. Best of luck

Thanks crazyness,

i actually had cramps and a visitor this morning that I quite happily welcomed. I suppose I got edgy since i'm so used to getting my period on the first or the latest second day of inactive pills. And prior to that I used to get spotting a few days before so I knew it would be coming. Perhaps this new pill will shorten my periods? Because even on alesse i'd get long ones.

No problem! I'm glad you got your visitor trust me...Ive been so worried many times. As long as you take it everyday the same time you will be fine. Your body can take up to 3 months for it to fully adjust to any medication and when you switch pills it will mess up your cycle. Im happy it worked out :)
