New User, Becoming EHEALTHy
My younger sister went to the local health dept at the end of march to be put on the pill. They done all the standard pap, blood work, urine test. Put her on the pill. She even went back in july for the rest of her pills (at that time they didnt do any test) everything was app fine she never missed her period nor had any other syptoms. Than sat aug 5 while standing in the shower she last a 26 week baby girl. What I want to know is shouldnt they have know she was preg when they done the pap and stuff in march since by our calculations she would have been 6-7 weeks along. If so did them giving her the baby cause her and the baby future problem. And are the pills what prob cause the baby to die. Please help she needs some answers

As far as I know, when you go in to get the "pill" they ask you if there's a chance you could be pregnant. If she had unprotected sex, then she should have said yes, so they could have tested her before putting her on the pill. I don't think they can tell you are pregnant by a normal pap other than sometimes your cervix turns a little purplish. The doctor also would have asked her if her periods were normal, and by that time she would have missed a period, so she should have told them that too if by your calculations she would have been 6 - 7 weeks. The pill hasn't been known to cause miscarriages, and most of the time they go unexplained.

Sometimes these things happen and we can't understand why.

Extremely EHEALTHy
A "urine pregnancy test" was taken at 6 weeks?"sometimes hcg goes undiscovered with urine test and a pap does not indicate pregnancy , only abnormal cells. The pill has not shown to cause harm to a growing fetus , nor miscarriage or any developmental issues. As long as she is off them now all is fine.

She was having her 'period' this whole time? It concerns me that she didn't seek medical attention for any symptoms she may have been having.

Generally, a first labor is harder and longer than getting into the shower and 'delivering' a baby while standing there. I've miscarried at 20 weeks and it can be a long 'labor'.

These are all questions that she should ask her doctor. There should have been an autopsy on the baby to find out the 'cause' or the reason for the miscarriage.

When you start the birth control pills, you usually start the .Sunday after your period starts. If that was the case, she should have had a period so she could start the pill and she would not have known she was pregnant - nor would the clinic she got the pills from.
