Q: Uper Stomach Pain

I have been suffering from severe stomach pain that attacks me apx 9 times per year. I got it as a child and them it stopped around the age of 18 but then returned with avengence at the age of around 25.

It starts of very mild and comes and goes every 1/2 hour or so but eventually builds up to a constant pain. It is based in my upper stomach, above my belly button but under my chest.

I get alot of wind that makes be burp and as the pain gets stonger and stronger I start to be sick. This can go on for aroud 12 hours or so. The pain for the last few hours is always severe and after I cannot be sick anymore I still reach and bring up acid and bile.

The pain is so severe its almost as if my body shuts down and I just have to go to bed. I also sometimes get pain in my lower back near my kidneys.

I have been to the doctors several times and have been reffered for several tests.

I have had an endoscopy which revealed a hiatus hernia, but I do not believe that could cause such severe reoccurring symtoms as these.

I have has ultrasound for gaulstones, but nothing showed.

I had another endoscopy which revealed a pyloris bacteria and took a triple course of antibiotics. This solved the problem for a few months, but it still came back again.

Sometimes I get struck down everyother week, and other times once in 3 months.

I have monitored food that I eat, but there does not appear to be any connections.

I am due to go back to my gp again as I am still getting these attacks.

Can anyone help me?

How long did you take the triple therapy? You have to take it for atleast for two weeks. H pylori can cause an ulcer which has the same effects as you describe. It could be you did not erradicate fully the h pylori. Get a blood test to find out?

My husband has very similar symptoms as you described for the past two years. He get severe abdominal pain above his waist and below his chest.
It radiates around his back as well. He too has had blood tests, colonoscopy, ultra sound, MRI, x-ray, cat scan, endoscopy with biopsies, and all come back negative, but yet the pain persists. Sometimes the pain is so bad, that he vomits. It doesn't usually last for very long, but appears to happen within a half hour or so of eating. No connection whatsoever to a specific food. It can happen if he drinks water! The doctor wants to take out his gallbladder. What do you think?

I would definitely get a second opinion. I had a ulcer, took the triple therapy for 2 weeks because of hpylori and I was fine for about a month. Now my stomach is hurting again, same area above belly button below chesh, right in the middle.

To deal with the problem I take Nexium and Tums. I dont know why I am getting this pain back. Could hpylori be back or is this a acid disorder where my body produces alot of acid?

Gall Bladder
I as well have all these symptoms, along with extreme fatigue. Every time I start hurting in the middle of my abdominal, between my ribs, I get some what dizzy and really tired, as if I have no energy. I have had my gallbladder looked at and they didn't find anything...as well as scans with nothing found. I know that something is not right because of my symptoms, but still the doctor acts like it's not a big deal. This effects everything I do during the day. When I wake up at night with hot sweats and indigestion up to my neck, the only thing that helps me is Prilocect OTC...and sometimes after I take it I have to do number 2 in the bathroom?? Strange. I am just trying to figure out, why this problem makes me feel so tired...and week.

I have found that OTC products dont work well for me. I was taking OTC products (ex: Prilosec, Cinmetidine) and told my doctor that they werent working. They werent healing my ulcer. He had mention that those products are very watered down as far a efficiency. They have to be extra safe if they are to be sold over-the-counter. Those products are used if you occasionally have heartburn or acid indigestion. People like us need something stronger, which is why I got my doctor to prescribe something stronger.

He prescribed Nexium. I have no symptoms whats so ever and the dosage is pretty strong (40mg). That helps. He also prescribed Prevacid at a different time which is also good.
