Same Type of Problem

Hi, I am in the u.S. Army, and I received the smallpox injection about 22 months ago, I had a really bad reaction to the shot, couldnt really move my left arm for about 3 weeks, and ever since the injection I have noticed 3 swollen glands on my left side in my neck, they are not painful, and seem to be going down... Slowly, should I be concerned? Before the smallpox shot I didnt have any swollen lymphnodes. I consulted a physician about 5 months after the shot and he said dont worry about it. Then I changed duty stations and about a week ago I went to the doctor here and they seem extremely worried about it. Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated, I am supposed to deploy at the end of october to iraq, and I am worried that I will not be able to go. Thanks

In may I developed a slightly swollen bump behind my right ear - about pea-sized i'd say. It gets a bit smaller, about pencil eraser size, or sometimes slightly bigger than pea sized, but it never goes away totally. It doesn't really grow and stay big so I try not to worry. I may have had it before may & just not noticed... Only found it then because I was having bad headaches & was rubbing my neck a lot! My family doctor was not concerned at all, and like others, said it's just my body fighting off infection. I'm just going to watch it and be aware of it growing, hurting, or any others popping up. I've had my thyroid levels checked twice this year and both times were normal. I'm five months pregnant so I get a lot of tests. :)

Swollen Lymph Nodes

I was first diagnosed with swollen lymph nodes in 2001. It was diagnosed as lymphadenopathy. A bone marrow test was done for cancer and it came back negative. In 2004, I went into the hospital for an empyema that was located near my mediastinal and hilar lymph nodes. A biopsy was done on the mediastinal lymph node that came back benign. The hilar lymph nodes were not tested because of inflammation surrounding them. The lymph nodes had grown since 2001 but at a very slow rate. I had gone through many many infections between 2001 and 2004. In 2005 a different doctor saw the same enlarged lymph nodes and took another bone marrow biopsy which again came back negative. The lymph nodes have grown slightly since 2004. All lymph nodes are in the same general area as the 2001 observation. Last month I went to the doctor for painful lymph nodes. He was not aware of my past history. I am now scheduled to go through another biopsy next month. I have absolutely no symptoms of lymphoma nor have I during the last 4 years. I know it's better to be safe than sorry. Any thoughts?

Swollen Nodes

I have had swollen nodes in my neck since march2006. It started right side jaw, and has since moved through most of the nodes you do not realize you have. I have been on biaxin for three months when it moved into my ear. I have had six biopsys done, not so bad just annoying, tested for tb, ultra sounds, and chest xrays. I have been cleared of all the really scary stuff and been told it is cat scratch disease. This can take 8-12 months to leave the system, and if it starts to get really inflamed I will have to go back on the biaxin. Question, do any of you have excessive flem? Gross I know but its all day long. Don't worry about the biopsy. Oh and I am aloud to keep my cats as I will be immune!

Swollen Lymph Nodes

I have a problem very similar to tanyagroter. I have several enlarged lymph nodes on the right side of my neck, above my collarbone. They are very tender and my neck hurts if I stretch it too much to the left. I've had a chest xray, blood tests and a fine needle aspiration biopsy. All were negative. I went to an ent specialist who put me on a course of antibiotics for one month. So far I have been on the antibiotics for a little over 2 weeks and nothing has changed. In fact, the glands seem to have gotten bigger and sorer after the needle biopsy which was over 3 weeks ago. I am in a panic. I have a severe form of anxiety called hypochondriasis and I am absolutely convinced I have lymphoma or some other form of cancer. Even though my biopsy was negative for malignancy, I don't believe it. I'm sure my ent will want to take out my lymph nodes when I see him next month, especially if they have not gone down. I thought that if I had some kind of infection, the antibiotics would have cleared it up. They seem to be doing nothing. I have no other symptoms. If anyone else has ever had something along these lines, I would really appreciate hearing your story. I am going out of my mind with worry.

Thanks.

I recently had a benign tumor removed from my back. and about 6 months later i noticed that I had some swollen lymph nodes one in my neck, followed by one in my armpit and then about 3 weeks later one in my groin. the one in my neck has shrunk considerably but i can still feel it. the one in my armpit has been there for about a month without changing and is sometimes painful. the one in my groin feels like its going down but i only noticed it two days ago. i am 17 and i dont want to tell my parents. is there anyone who can ease my concerns about this.

Swollen Lymph Nodes

For 30 years I have had this same node behind my left ear by my jaw bone as well. It would seem to fluctuate in size from time to time and be more painful from time to time. Sometimes it would throb but not always. Is always painful to the touch. Just recently it has tripled in size. Just like one of the readers mentioned, I can move mine around and grab it from underneath my jawbone. Kind of egg shaped even though unless I move my head a certain way most people can not see it. I am going to get a biopsy as well. Anybody have the same experience ?

Hey - I had to the testing thing as some of my posts did not go through.

I have expererienced swollen glands on both sides of my neck on several occasions. The last time was when I was out in a very windy beach storm. Came home and glands were the size of golf balls. My roommate told me to stick a needle in them and pop them - what an ass!!!

Anyway - w/no med. insurance, and not much money I road it out with bed rest, vitamins and such. Plus I have had this before and it is really scary.

Lymph nodes can become swollen over minor things, like a tiny virus that really doesn't attack any other part of your body, it's just your immune defense kicking into overdrive to ward off something it does'nt like.

I also had a huge lump under my right arm. The dr's did a biopsy which was benign, but did remove it anyway. The recovery from such an operation (under the arm) is awful, I lost most of my nerve senses and have a terrible scar.

The good news is it was benign.

I still get swollen glands from time to time - I was told I have CMV virus which is not deadly just is there and sometimes your defense mechanisms work overtime to fend it off. Just about everyone carries that virus and don't know it - next time you go to the Dr. ask for A COMPLETE BLOOD WORK done up on you.

Hope this helps! Cary

hello,

i just recently went to the doctor's to get a check up on a swollen gland that i've had for 7 years and through the years i have felt it getting a bit larger but its not painful my swollen lymph node is located just behind my ear so anyways i went and im going to go to the specialist soon but im scared that it could be something bad due to the fact that i've had it for a really long time. Though i dont feel any pain or any of the symptoms of a swollen lymph node, but still iam scared and at this point i dont know what to think about and i dont want it to be cancer and thats what iam most afraid of. Can someone tell me if they have had a swollen lymph node for this long! i want to hear your story please!

thanx
