Meningitis Posted: 01-31-04 21:35pm
I had meningitis my symptoms were severe
headaches to the point where any light
sent me crazy, severe vomiting no matter
what I had even to drink any fluids they
just would not stay down this went on for
3 days I went to several doctors that said
I had a bad case of the flu . My husband
took me to emergancy department at our
hospital which they just sent me back home
with pain killers.Early the next morning I
was still vomiting constantly so he took
me to our local doctor surgery and I saw
another doctor by the time I got to the
clinic my neck had gone stiff .So one look
at me this doctor called an ambulance andi
was rushed to the hospital where had a cat
scan done and it showed a shadow over my
brain ,so then I had fluid removed from my
spine which showed meningitis .After that
I cannot remember a lot ,just heard
doctors running and saying we better be
quick .So I was given massive amounts of
antibiotics .I remeber asking the doctors
if I was going to die and they just said
to me they dont know they r doing
everything they can after that I knew
nothing for 2 days .So because of our
persistence by going back to the emergancy
department and seeing a doctor i'd never
seen before they finaly listenend to me
and I owe my life to that new doctor at
our clinic .So plz if u have any symtoms
like I have said see ur doctor
emmediatley.I was in hospital for 2 weeks
and I am fine now thanks to this doctor

Although last year, I had contracted
fungal meningitis, the symptoms were much
same as from margy. I went to emergency
three times, they only gave me pain
killers, sent me home so I can finally
sleep. Then wake to the most severe form
of headache, vomiting, pain....Finally
admitted to hospital and spinal tap was
done, the doctors were finally aware. By
this time, I had lost 20 lbs, was deathlty
ill, and my chances were very slim. I was
hospitalized for 2 and half months and
with the grace of god, pulled through. My
sight was affected (double vision) for a
short time, mostly back now, however I did
receive nerve damage for sense of smell,
(see two postings here when I inquired)
this is a minuscule
thing, I am just happy to be alive. All
this said and done, why the doctors did
not connect the headaches, vomiting and
pain to meningitis or at least test for
this, I believe, lies in the beurocracy of
costs for the procedure. Saddly, I
believe this to be the true reason.
