Q: Skipping Sugar Pills

I am on yasmin bc and my doctor allows me to get 3 packs at once so that I can skip the sugar pills and start a new pack so that I can miss a period if I want because of my bad cramps. She suggested that I have a period every 3 months but told me I didn't have to. I usually take it normally (having a period every month) because I like knowing that i'm not pregnant.
Last month I did skip the sugar pills and started a new pack so that I wouldn't get my period. This month I have been on my pills for 2 weeks, but I am going on vacation during 4th week when I would have my period. I also am spotting, which I don't normally do and it feels like I just need to have a period (if that makes any sense).
Would it be okay to stop my pills early and have a breakthru bleed on the 3rd week and then start a new pack during the week I would have had my period? Would I need to use protection? If so, for how long?

Thanks...

Hi. I also went pack to pack for 3 months straight, I had a little breakthrough bleeding once during the last pack. I asked my doctor about letting my period come a week early and and end that last pack early, she said not to do that because then your body really doesnt know whats going on, and though you may get your "period" during that time, it may bleed for much longer then you usually do and you can get pregnant since your body is no longer being tricked, you may begin to ovulate. All in all she suggested not to do so. I would suggest you call your doctor now and ask her about it so that maybe by the time you hit that last week you will have your body on a new cycle and it will all work out. Good luck
