Q: Starting Solids And Waking Up 4 Times a Night! Please Help!

So logan usually sleeps through from 8pm til 8am but I introduced him to solids a few weeks ago. All was fine and dandy I was giving him one meal a day to start with and he was still sleeping hrough.

When I went away last week to see my grandma she upped his solids from once a day to breakfast, dinner and supper. Well he took to it great but then (confusingly) he started waking up 3-4 times while at my grandma's. I though maybe it was the change in the scenery (she lives in a seaside town, I live in the city) but when I brought him back here he has kept up the routine and for the past 3 nights has woke up 3-4 times for bottles.

I thought solids makes them sleep better? Even though my daughter is only 17 months i've completely forgot what it was like and as I am pregnant again this is wearing me out.

Please advise? Sorry for long post....

Not all babys sleep better on solids some sleep worse lol
maybe u should try bringing down the amount he has through the day back to one it could be causing him belly ache which would stuff up his routine
also does he have a fever rash seem really irratible through the day dribbling if so id be taking him to the doctors to make sure he is ok it might not be the solids could be sick or something
try giving him baby panadol before he goes to bed say about 15 minutes before hand
or even a bath before he goes to bed I find baths work wonders
my son is almost 7 months old he slept right through then got sick n didnt but he is sleeping again now

Thank you very much for your reply. I never even thought that it could be making him sick. He hasn't had as much to eat today. Its 4.30 here. I was going to give him some weetabix (biscuits made of weat that we have with milk here) but I don't know whether to or not

Hey sweetie....

Has logans bowel movements changed at all?? Are they as consistant as they used to be? He might be constipated... A lot of times when children are introduced to solids so fast they get constipated.. And that might be causing a belly ache and the frequent awakenings.

Sometimes when feeding solids you can overfeed and not know it. At 1st they should have 1-2 jars a day. It's all about trial and error. If you were feeding him once a day to introduce it to his digestive system, keep that up. Don't let your mother in law change that. His digestive system prob went into system overload. He more than likely had a belly ache trying to digest all of that solid food.

Kayoni has been on solids for about a month and a half and I started her off at 3tablespoons and have been upping it daily. But she still drinks her formula 4 times a day!!

It's all about figuring out what makes your angel comfy!!

When my daughter was 2.5 months old, everyone said, "give her baby cereal so she'll sleept through the night!" I tried it and she was up even more! I mentioned this to my doctor - he laughed and told me that it is generally a wive's tale that feeding a child more and/or solids will get them to sleep through the night. If they do, it is a coincidence (in his eyes).

I stopped the cereal and just waited until she was 6 months and could sit up before feeding her solids again. Eventually, she slept through the night on her own.

Good luck. Parenting is trial and error - find whatever works best for you and your kids. -- and always take everyone's advice with a grain of salt. They have the best intentions. ;)

Thanks girls. Well I gave him a baby yoghurt and a rusk and he went to sleep about an hour ago (its 10.45pm here) which is late for him. I hope he has a better night tonight but daddy is waking with him tonight so at least I can get some rest.

His poo hasn't changed accepted it smells more. I've been giving him water to keep him hydrated and I guess i'll just have to see how it goes.

Oh by the way I forgot to mention he got his first tooth yesterday but he's not waking with teething pain. Its bottles he wants

That's cool!!! I can't wait until .Kayoni gets her 1st tooth!!! She's drooling and chewing on everything in sight. And she just got snot nose yesterday morning...So hopefully a tooth will emerge so we can get this whole process over with!!

Beckster, just make sure you keep your angel hydrated like you're doing!! His little belly was prob just hurting him!!

Good .Luck and get some well deserved rest!!!
