Unintentional Weight Loss Linked to Hypoglycemia? Posted: 08-04-06 09:25am
I'm curious as to whether other folks
diagnosed with hypo have lost alot of
weight without even trying?
It started the week of christmas which I
thought was related to stress but it
continued dropping and dropping.
This is when I went to the gastro, gp,
gyno, etc. Because nothing was jumping
out at the doctors. They were just as
worried as my family who thought I was
purposely not eating enough.
I was eating like a truck driver, not less
food but more.
I was always hungry. The girls at work
started commenting how they wish they
could eat what they want and lose weight
like I was.
I at first liked that I was sheding
pounds without even trying. But after a
while, it got ridiculous. My sister and
others said I looked like I was a victim
from the concentration camps or that I had
aids. I was getting frightened at this
point. I had to supplement my diet with
those drinks that put on calories and have
loads of supplements.
I dropped down from 130 pounds down to 100
within a matter of months.
No one thought of doing a gtt test. My
gastro dr thought I had pancreatitis but
the mri failed to show this true.
There still is no definitve answer as to
why the weight dropped and i'm wondering
if maybe it's correlated with having
hypoglycemia?
I'm going to ask the endocronolgist when I
see her for a follow up in six weeks,
because I never recieved an answer.
Is this a common feature with hypo?
I've stopped losing weight but still
remain under for my height.
I'm 46 yrs old and i'm 5'7" tall and i'm
up to 113 pounds.
I'm incorportating excersise finally and
now want to change my diet accordingly for
hypo treatment but I can't afford to drop
back down to 100 pounds.
I had to have female surgery last fall of
2005 and a week after surgery when I was
home, I had an intestinal blockage and was
put back in the hospital and put on a
strict liquid diet for 3 very long days
which made me drop down to 98 pounds.
This is why it's not good to get too low
incase we do get diagnosed with some
serious illness and then we have no back
up to support our weakened system.
It scared the heck out of me. I was very
ill and I never knew how I took for
granted how our digestive system is
designed to work so smoothy when we're
healthy with no problems. It was
miserable and I never want to go thru that
again.
So has anyone lost weight too
unintentionally because of hypo?

I actually retained weight, but I know of
people who lost a ton unexpectedly with
hypoglycemia. I'm not sure why, probably
just the body using up whatever it has at
hand to keep the sugar more stable.
Increasing fat intake should do it for
you.

Linda:
when I was first diagnosed with
hypoglycemia, I did lose a lot of weight
fast. I attribute it to the change in
diet. I have since leveled off once I
increase my fat intake. I eat a small
avocado and I don't know how many
tablespoons of olive oil every day.

Iv'e lost about 6kgs this yr I think thats
about 13-14 pounds, and im still loosing
it.
I am slowly continuing to loose it, I just
think its because I eat healthy now, and
not all the junk I used to eat.

Undoubtedly, i'm slowly losing weight off
of my midsection, which has been a trouble
spot for me in particular for awhile as
far as toning up goes.
