Q: My Iud Experience

I was so glad that everything is done and over and i'm going to have 1o years of contraception with my new paragard iud that's why i'm sharing this to everybody especially those who are thinking of getting one themselves.

I'm 18 years old. I haven't had kids before not have been pregnant and i'm seriously don't want to get pregnant sooner or later. I've tried the pill (ortho-trycyclen lo), the ring, and condoms. My mom is against using birth control and having sex before marriage all together. That's why she make me stop taking the pills and make me stop taking any birth control that is visible. The ring make me have blood clots and other complications. So I decided to have a paragard. Today, after I woke up I already felt nervous. Then at 1:50 p.M. Me and my bf went into planned parenthood. First they talked about the advantages and disadvantages of iud. Then they took a preg test to make sure i'm not preg. Then they assigned me on one of the rooms and asked me to strip from waist down. When the nurse came in she show all the tools and paragard. I was nervous because the nurse told me that since I haven't had kids, the insertion would be "really painful and crampy". It was very crampy and painful because my cervix is very unwelcoming it won't open a bit. She poked me with the long scissors twice which is really painful but the stick would not go in. I was very nervous and in a lot of pain. She went out and call another nurse to help her. They tried doing it again and I felt this heavy cramping and pain in my lower abdomen. I was shaky and tried counting with my fingers so that I will forget the pain. Then they insert the iud it only took a few seconds. It was very crampy. Then after 10 seconds, the nurse told me it's over. I was so glad and happy. After the procedure was done. I'm back to normal. I have a little spotting but no pains, no cramp, no nothing. My boyfriend is very supportive though and caring for me after I stepped of the door.. I was glad it's all over.. ;-)

Thanks Carifairy
Thanks carifairy...You have been supportive... I'm just a little bit concerned about allergic reactions to copper as I heard other people having skin rashes and hives etc. After having the copper iud inserted..Is this because they are allergic to copper. I'm not really allergic to a lot of objects only shrimp and other seafood..And plus I just found out that our daily family multivitamin supplement that me and my family take everyday has copper 2mg on each tablet..We are taking it daily for about a year and I haven't got any allergic reaction to it does it mean i'm not allergic to copper? I'm so happy. 10 years of protection! No hormones! Yay

Congrateulations! I am so happy that you are happy with your iud and just think you don't have to worry about taking a pill everyday and the side effects, they have come a long way with them but my experience was not too good with one and it was a long time ago!
Cairifairy adds a lot to ehealth and I myself totally trust her and her opinions, she is one great person!

My best friend has the mirena in and she loves it. But I had the paraguard in and it was awful for me. For the first few weeks I was fine then when my period came I was flooding everywhere. They say your period can come heavier but mine was so bad I was hospitalised. I left it in for a while longer and decided to take it out.

After I have had this baby I will definatley get the mirena in as it gives you lighter periods. I hope you have a positive experience with the paraguard though.

make sure that you fully and I mean fully research the mirena iuc........It is not always the miracle bc that the dr's tell you that it is.......The mirena has been a horrible experience for me and my sister both. Breast tenderness, weight gain, mood swings, hot flashes, hair falling out, massive facial hair growth, cramps, abdominal issues, head aches, and many many more things. Please be sure you research this fully before you commit yourself to having it put in.

I have paragard also. I'm young and don't have kids either, and insertion was quite painful! They seemed to make it sound like I wouldn't experience any pain, mostly cause I think they do most insertions with women who've given birth, but for me it hurt! In a way i'm kind of glad I didn't know that it would hurt cause I wasn't nervous at all going in, but I would be had I known what it would really be like. The inserted it on what would've been the last day of my period, but then it continued for about four days after that and I had such bad cramps I had to miss work the next day. I wish I would've known that ahead of time! :d
