Problems With Iud? Posted: 08-02-06 09:43am
Hello all, I am submitting this for my
girlfriend, but if there are questions for
her I may can answer or get an answer from
her... Thanks
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
i am a 44y/o and had an iud fitted. I
have two teenaged sons and reside in
africa. I made use of national health
clinic services. Due to a pelvic
infection, I required medication before
the dr would insert the iud approx 3 weeks
later. As I am on thyroid medication (and
a smoker) it was agreed a non-hormonal iud
be used. If I am reading my clinic card
correctly a dalapt cu 375 was fitted.
Prior to insertion I was not sexually
active, only becoming so in july, approx 2
months after the iud was fitted.
Menstruation has not been heavier nor more
painful, altho penetration was. The dr
ascribed this to new sex and suggested we
'see how things go'. Life has been
unusually stressful the past few weeks,
but am concerned at how I feel virtually
continually nauseous. Since the insertion
of this iud my period has been eratic and
of a shorter duration. At the moment I am
menstruating not even 2 weeks after my
last period. If I am pregnant, it's
probably only 4 weeks into the pregnancy,
but this bleeding confuses me. I did not
bleed during previous pregnancies. I have
not been able to find much information on
iud pregnancies online and would
appreciate some advice or referrals on
this matter, as our clinics are bursting
to overflowing and would prefer not to
have to visit there if it could be a false
alarm. I do not have access to a private
medical insurance. At the moment I take
only vitamins, folic acid (for thyroid
removal)omega 3 and eltroxin. Looking
forward to your reply. Kind regards
i hope you can help us with this, thank
you for your help,
steve
Hi there I don't think you are pregnant.
I had the same problems with the
paraguard, erratic bleeding for the first
few weeks and then when my period did come
it was so heavy I was hospitalised.
Needless to say I had it removed but it
might not be the same for you. Irregular
bleeding is a symptom of the paraguard
though
Well, time for a follow up...
Since this time, my girlfriend got a home
test not long after this last message was
posted, which turned out negative. ...
However, over a month now, and no period.
Her last 'normal' period was 21 july,
then she had the light bleeding on 1
august, then nothing since. She had the
iud removed on 17 august. She has been
needing a lot more sleep lately and her
appitite seems to have diminished ... But
she has been under stress lately.
Could the iud have changed her cycle that
much? Could these be symptoms of early
menopause? ... Or does this sound stress
related?
I know that the best solution will be to
go down to the clinic, but while waiting
for this posibility, we are just trying to
learn all we can.
Thank you,
steve
Theoretically she could be entering
premenopuase..
As we women become older, our cycles will
change!
She needs to give the iud longer then 2
months to see how it all works out, her
body needs time to adjust.
A visit to the clinic would be a great
idea though.
Thanks for your response!
She had the iud removed already...On the
17th of last month.
We are going to give things until the 14th
of this month. If still no period by
then, she's going to go to the clinic.
:wink:
It sounds like just an effect of the iud,
and also possibly early menopause.
