Couldn't find a specific topic to post this in and though orthopedics would be best.

I went to the er this last thursday the 27th after I injured my wrist hold a door knob and having my son force his way into the room. Well xray came back with a radial hairline fracture, she said it is so tiny they almost missed it and I didn't even see it in the xray, so they splinted my arm from the elbow down and covered with ace bandage. Well I am a stay at home mom with a 10 month old and not much help, I couldn't even change my son's diaper. I called the orthopedic specialist in my area and he can't see me for over 2 weeks and so I concocked my own splint made with cardboard applied to both sides of my wrist and covered it with an ace bandage, it doesn't hurt too bad and there isn't any swelling at all! Can I buy a wrist brace/splint at a drug store and have good results or do I really need a cast? I don't think I do, but??????
