I had a cough for about 2 weeks, finally went to the doctor and was diagnosed on 7/17/06 with whooping cough (husband had it as well). My cough is pretty much gone, but still have an occasional light cough, definitely not he strangling cough I had been going through. Of course I had a round of antibiotics, as did everyone in my household and those I had been in close contact with. But because of a sore throat that won't seem to go away (that I did not have during the worst of the whooping cough) I am now on another round of antibiotics. I've been on this round for 5 days now and the sore throat has not even decreased in severity. I'm just very concerned that even with all the antibiotics this won't go away and wonder if it is a side effect from the whooping cough or if there is another cause. While I am definitely not a hypochondriac and DO realize that I have had a bad illness, I will admit that most of my concern stems from the fact that my mother's sister had throat cancer.
My question, I suppose, is... does whooping cough come with a sore throat that might last this long (even with antibiotics), and if so, how much longer can I expect it to last?
Thank you.
