Itchy Skin And Yellow Eyes After Gallbladder Removal?

Hello, I had my gallbladder out 7 months ago now and have noticed that I also have yellow tinged eyes and slightly on my hands as well. Not sure what is the cause of this. I would love to know what you find out. Thanks!

It's been almost 2 weeks since my surgery, and I have itching all over throughout my midsection. This only started about 2 days ago though, but it drives me crazy. I go back to see my surgeon on Friday, and I'm hoping she can give me some kind of answer. Because some of the things I read on the internet are NOT encouraging. If anyone has any thoughts on this, please help us out.

It could be a sign of jaundice in which case you should probably see your doctor.

You could, as I did before gallbladder removal, have a gallstone stuck in your bile duct.

My gallbladder was removed in June 2008, and nine months later I began having the itching others have mentioned. Here it is July 2010 and the itching hasn't stopped. During that time, I've tried changing detergents and medications. I've tried several prescriptions and over the counter meds. I'll see an Allergist next week and hope tests will reveal the reason for this symptom.

Just started for me. As with most of you the itching is driving me insane. Research points to common bile duct issues with bile backing up into liver. Would be nice to hear an opinion from the experts in here.

I had my gallbladder removed last October. Initially I was doing fine but during the last 2 months my body has been been itching all over after meals. My skin is also very dry.

Itchy skin can be caused by all sorts of things, but is one possible side effect of jaundice. Combined with yellow eyes or skin, the diagnosis is obvious and you need to see a doctor quickly. Without any other signs of jaundice, it could just be a reaction to other medication such as some painkillers.

Hi, I have a possibility of gallstones, nasty pain in my right side, saw the doctor and awaiting my scan next Tuesday. My question is... I am so itchy its untrue! Its not in one place, it seems to be everywhere and this has been going on a few months now, but only been getting the strong pain in my stomach/right side for about a month now. Should I be concern and wait for my scan, or make another appointment for the docs?

Iann is quite right. Yellow eyes and darker urine are signs of jaundice and thatis not to be taken lightly.

Itchy skin can be a result of bile salts collecting - again something you need to get checked out.

If yr eyes go yellow it is never a good sign!

MY Husband had his gall bladder taken out about 3 weeks ago, and he is also Itchy all over and Jaundice all over and in his eyes. We took him back to his surgeon, and he readmitted my husband and they took him in to see if there was anything blocking his bile duct and nothing. he went back again today and the Doctor just doesn't know what is causing the Jaundice and the itching. He ran some more blood work to check his liver and mentioned sending my husband to a liver specialist. The Itching and lack of sleep is taking a toll on my husband, he sleeps anywhere from 1 - 3 hours a night, and he is so tired. I have to keep buying him the Cortizone stop itching creme, and it helps for a little while. He asked the doctor if he could take something to help him sleep, but the doctor wants him to wait on the blood work. he doesn't want him taking any medication that could affect his liver.

I had my gall bladder removed about 10 months ago and have had itchy skin since then. I am led to believe that it is a result of no gall bladder to store bile in. Since there is no storage some of the excess bile produced 'gravitates' into the blood stream where it sensitizes the nerve endings of the body. This is reason why the skin itches, it is over sensitive nerve endings. You may find that situations like hot showers exacerbate the symptom. I am afraid I do not know of anything to cure the problem, yet!

Its been 1 week since i had my gallbladder taken out. I got severe itching,( its like poison ivy without the bumps) all over my body. my eyes are a yellow tint and my urine is way darker now. i go back for my follow-up tomorrow. Hopefully, there isn't anything else wrong with because i hate hospitals. Can someone tell me something. I will reply back tomorrow after my visit to let yall know what the doctors saids.

last november 26 2012 i had my lap choly do due to gall stones, my first two weeks seems really fine except the pain i felt from my wound that were still fresh and the pain i get from where my drain is attached. after the 3 weeks i still have my drain attached on me, i started to feel bloating in my stomach, and i have these very strong gases coming out from my mouth, like i have a hyper acidity or some kind all day starting this week DECEMBER 17, 2012 monday, suddenly my body started to become so itchy, it's kind a like its there but there are no visible spots, redness like the allergies do, nothing, but when i touch my skin, all of a sudden it just activates and the next thing i knew im scratching till i die, from my feet up to my head, everywhere, even my finger tips my palm everywhere..i called my doctor and she only told me to take citirizine 10mg tab, but it doesn't help, i also notice that my urine becomes darker and yellow. i've been like this for 5 nights now. december 21 2:00 am i woke in my bed and start looking for answers, i found this site where i found there are many like me who suffered the same problem after the operation..i'm tired and sleepless and getting weaker as days pass co'z i could not get to sleep properly. hope someone can give us an answer what was happening and what should we do..
