Q: Post Surgical Abortion - Bleeding Too Much...or Too Long?

Hi,

i had a surgical abortion on june 29th. I bled somewhat heavily the first 3 days then it sort tapered off. Ever since then, I have been bleeding every day. Some days more heavily than others. Right now it feels like I have a full blown period. Basically, it's been heavy every 3 days (bright red blood consistently) and then 3 days of slower bleeding (darker blood). Is this normal? I may just now be having my period but i'm a bit confused because I haven't really stopped bleeding since the abortion.

Also, fyi..I'm not on any birth control now...Just trying to give my body a break and get back to normal. Also, I did not go in for my follow-up appt. Because I wasn't sure if the doc would want to examine me while i'm bleeding so much.

Please help...Anyone heard of anything like this?

Have you been active? The more active you are ..Ex exercise, heavy lifting, walking a lot, working etc...

For a week after an abortion you should not exercise or do any heavy lifting, you should take it easy..

The rule of thumb is "if you soak more than 1-2 pads an hour, you have a problem.

No, I Haven't Been Exercising...
I've really been taking it easy. Plus, i'm almost at 4 weeks for the abortion. I'm not soaking a pad every 1-2 hours, I just wanted to know when I may stop bleeding. It has definitely made it difficult to lead a more normal life. I may just be having my period now...I dunno. Part of me thinks this is my body getting back at me because i've been on birth control for over 10 years. I mean, before the aborion, I maybe had my period three days...And that was long. I'm just wondering. Guess I should be calling my doc tomorrow! :d

Def call a doc, but for 4 weeks post abortion, it very well could be your period.

Try taking it easy for a bit and propping your legs up.
