Does anyone out there know what amount of folic acid you should take when ttc? I have been taking 400mg for the last 4 months. Also should you start prenatal vitamins during ttc? Or do you start them when you get your bfp? Can they be purchased over the counter at wal'mart near the vitamins?

You can get prenatal vitamins at the walmart in the vitamin section. You should take 800 mcg of folic acid when pregnant. That is how much is in prenatal tablets.

Good luck ttc!!

You can also try using a fertility supplement like fertilaid that already has folic acid in

400mcg's is sufficient when ttc. My doctor didn't have me take prenatal's until my first bfp. Prenatal's have 800mcg's of folic acid because you body quickly absorbs it when your pregnancy hormones kick in. Yes you can purchase prenatals at any place that sells vitamins (like cvs or walgreen's).
