I was on orthro tri-cyclen lo for over a year. I recently stopped taking it, because we cannot afford it and there is no planned parenthood near enough for me to get it. It's okay - I still have protected sex and we're extremely careful.

When I first started the pill, it drove my emotions crazy. At least, I am assuming that's what I did. I have not been offically diagnosed with bipolar disorder, however I am sure I have it. So - it's hard to say what could possibly be causing so many emotional problems? What can I expect now that I am going off the birth control? Anything? Or could it perhaps be my mental illness? (which I am not currently medicated for.)

Birth control is known to make depression worse, which is why I cannot use hormonal birth control. I use an iud, which is non hormonal and lasts for 10-12 years =)

there are hormone free options out there for you if you are interested.
