I have an 11 year old son with an ongoing stomach ache problem. He's had regular bowel movements on a daily basis, never having any problem with constipation, however, he develops a stomach ache usually within a half hour after eating and has to have a bowel movement. He's complained for close to a year about these tummy aches, and for a while, I thought it was a psychological thing. I brought him in to the doctor the other day, and she did an abdominal x ray. She claims he's "full of poop" and constipated, and says that he's constipated throughout his intestines down to his rectum. Said to bring him home, feed him fiber and give him some laxatives. Well, i've done this...It's been about 5 days, and he's going poop about as much as he's always gone, and the stomach aches have intensified. She did also say that on the x rays she saw some little "white spots, but didn't know what they are"...Concerning to me....And here I am wondering...What do I do??...Should I bring the kid in for a second opinion, or could this indeed be a really bad case of constipation (remember, he has daily bowel movements). The stomach aches don't always subside after he has a bowel movement. Seems that lately, the heating pad helps. The pain is generally in the lower abdomen, all over. I'm confused..Not sure what to do, and wonder if anyone else has dealt with this same kind of thing....I hate seeing my little boy in pain. And he's not dealing with any issues at school, he's a well adjusted kid, no problems at home, everything is fine with him psychologically.
Help!!!!!

11 Year Old Stomach
I have a 13 year old having problems with going to the bathroom since he was little. He has in the last year had cronic problems, if you even question about getting a second opinion, then do it, I am, go with the mother instinct. Mother knows best!

Is there something he eats or drinks regularly that could be bothering him? Does he drink milk or tea at every meal? When I was growing up I would get the worst stomach pains and never could figure out why (although my parents never bothered to try and find out what it was) but when I got older I realized I was lactose intolerant when I got to college and went from drinking it every day to once in a blue moon. This is not to say it could be milk, but maybe something in his diet that he is either allergic to or doesn't digest well. Also, have they done a ct or tests to show the abdomen? Or at least blood tests to determine if the liver, pancreas, and gall bladder are working properly?

11 Year Old With Stomach Problems
In the past three weeks my son too has had almost identical symptoms to your son. He is also 11 years old, and is very well adjusted. Avisit to the emergency room showed an abdominal xray full of poop. We too tried laxatives but the stomach pains increased. It seemed the only thing that helped was the heating pad. I have taken him to 2 doctors but with little answers. I would be greatful to here of any help you have recieved or found out. Thank you, trs

13 yr old with abdominal pains
My 13 yr old son has had continual abdominal pains for almost 3 months. He has had xrays, blood tests, CT scan, upper GI scope, ultra sound, and Hydascan(spelling ?). His xrays showed major constipation. He drinks miralax on a regular basis. The ultra sound and hydascan showed that his gallbladder was only functioning at 4%. He has had his gallbladder removed. The constipation could've been from a bad gallbladder. He now has episodes of excruciating pain and the regular pain. He eats very little. All blood tests, urine tests, and xrays come back normal. He has seen our reg. dr., 3 visits to the ER, is still seeing a pediatrician GI specialist. I was advised to contact a childrens hospital. They can't see him for 4 months. Plz give me more ideas. thanks CC

12 year old daughter with chronic abdominal pain? WHAT IS THE CA
My 12 almost 13 year old stepdaughter has the same exact problems. She has had this soubling over pain for almost three years now on and off. An xray years ago showed that she was "full of feces" too but she goes to the bathroom regularly. It is breaking my heart to see her in such pain. I do not think it is wmotuonal as she has these attacks on days when she is happy and fine. Im worries about her . Shes on the couch right now with a heating bottle. I think its getting to the point where shes worried we and her mom think it is no big deal, all in her head. But that is not the case for me. There has to be an explanation. She has been to many doctors and th emergency room before but noone can tell us anything or give us an explanation. Her Biological mother has sulfite allergies but she has been tested for this and is supposedly free of this allergy. Please respond if anyone has any ideas or suggestions.
Thanks
Bridget

Please look at Gluten allergies. Your daughter being full of poo, stomach pains etc hint toward an allergy. Im guessing they never tested her for this...most people get diagnosed in their upper 30's, because docs are really not well versed in this area.
It's a $20 test for your insurance...Is her family from any northern european country? Asians rarely get this disease, but if it is not treated, she can become VERY ill.

Stomach aches in 11yr old
All of these posts point to Celiac/Gluten intolerance! If every american that HAD gluten issues were diagnosed, it would be more prevalent than Type 1 diabetes!!! Check the symptoms against any credible website & you will see your symptoms match. You need a very specific blood test to find it & even then, sometimes in kids, the antibodies their bodies make, throw the test way off.
Try a gluten free diet for 1 week...hard, but if they feel better, you will know!

My 13 yr old daughter had the same symptoms - intense pain in lower right abdominal area. She "poops" on a daily basis. Doctor sent her for x-rays and blood work and x-rays showed she was full of poop. She was put on a 2 day liquid diet with an immediate enema, then 2 Tbsp of mineral oil each day. On day 3 she can introduce small portions of solid foods, still taking the mineral oil and a nightly laxative. This continues for 5 days. She is on day 3 and feels great. It was also suggested we do a 2 day liquid diet once a month. Apparently some kids bowels are a little lazy and need to be trained - they can poop daily but it isn't enough. At least this is what our doctor has shared with us! And it seems to be working.

My 13 yr old daughter had the exact same problems as your son.She too would have tummy aches generally on her upper right side. Only difference is she would go one month vomiting for 8 - 30 days then the next month would be the pain. She too was given an xray and told she was full of poop. 10 days worth of laxatives, mineral oil, suppositories, drinking clear broth did absolutely nothing. Finally saw a pediatrician who told us the xrays showed she was clear - anyway, after abdominal ultrasounds, barium enemas and 2 more xrays nothing has come up. I did have to rush her into a clinic last month as her pain was in her chest area. Doctor said he felt it was acid reflux and that her gallbladder was to blame. So I researched foods that would help the gall bladder, changed her diet, have her taking omega 3 pills and a multi vitamin and her pain has subsided and vomiting stopped. We see the pediatrician Tuesday to get the tests for her gall bladder. Don't settle for "full of poop" - I wish you well and hope your son is feeling better soon!

My son had this problem with unexplained vomiting since he was born. Finally last yr we got someone to listen & sent us to pediatric gastroenterologist. My son had an upper endoscopy with biopsies taken & they came back with an auto-immune disease called Eosinophilic Esophagitis or EoE. If you google this disease you will see that it has many symptoms & can be in the esophagus all the way down to the colon. Unfortunately there is no cure right now, but atleast its an answer after 11 yrs of my son having the worst pain he had ever had. Good luck & feel free to ask me any follow up questions. My daughter is now having symptoms & she will most likely be Dx here soon...seems to run in our family, as other members have found out recently they have it also!!
