How long can the hpv virus lay dormant? I was sexually active before I got married but have only been with my husband for 24 years and my last pap report the hpv virus. I don't want to accuse my husband if there is a chance of the virus laying dormant all these years, but I don't want to be stupid either.

The virus can lay dormant for a very long time. And you may have had it for a long time anyway since it has only been recently tested for during routine pap smears.
