I had an abnormal smear in 1998 and coloscopy/laser to remove bad cells, have been trying for a baby nearly 3 years and no luck. Keep thinking it my chances have been reduced by the damage to my cervix. Anyone had simular experience and gone onto have a baby??

A friend of mine actually had cells removed while she was pregnant and then went on to have a second child after that with no problems at all.

you should go to a doctor and get checked if you haven't conceived in 3 years while trying. It is usually recommended that if you've tried for a year it is time to see a doctor.

There shouldn't be much, if any, scar tissue from your laser procedure. They only laser off the topmost layer of 'skin' cells so that shouldn't have damaged your cervix. However, a doctor would know for sure.

Good luck!!

:) hi, thanks for your reply which was encouraging. I have been to my gp and a specialist at my local hospital and been checked out over the 3 years. I was assured all was ok, I ovulate and hormone levels ok etc. I even had a ultra sound to see if any fibroids etc. Some polyps were found on my cervix & were harmless but had them removed. Apparently I have an erosion which causes bleeding whic is a real prob at moment. My hubby has agreed to have a sperm analysis done next week.
