My boyfriend is has type 1 diabetes. About four times now in the past two years, his sugar levels have dropped so low while he was sleeping, he doesn't remember anything until is sugar goes back up. The bed is completely wet from sweat, (this is my first signal to get out the oj.) he wakes up, but is not himself, acts very bizzare, and then doesn't remember anything. The best way to describe it: it is almost like someone that drank way too much and blacks out, or like a two year old that doesn't know any better when they are trying to touch the stove. Up until this morning, he has listened to me when I tell him to drink the orange juice or eat the chocolate bar. Today was very different, he fought with me because he thought I was trying to "drug" him. After about 45 minutes of fighting with him, he finally drank some juice and ate the candy bar. By this time though, he droped down to 17pts. I tested his blood about three times to make sure he wasn't getting too much sugar, (that was fun since he weighs 80 pounds more than me, and wasn't cooperating!) I am very scared and don't know if there is anything else I can do when he gets like that. The fact he doesn't remember anything either totally freaks me out. Is there any advice on what I can do if this happens again? He is the first person I have ever know with diabetes, I read as much as I can, and ask him lots of questions so I learn more, but it is still new to me as we have only been together for three years. Is there such thing as a "sugar" shot, or anything that wound't required him to actually drink or eat something? He is just too much bigger than me to wrestle him down and force him to eat or drink. At least when he's awake, he knows when his sugar is lowering, but while he's sleeping, by the time he wakes up, it's too late. Thank you in advance for any help you can suggest!!
