Q: Sternocleidomastoid Muscle - Neck

Hi - I started having really bad left temple area 'migraines' though I don't have a history of migraines. Along with dizzy/vertigo, sleep problems, neck pain/tension, ear pain/fullness, all on the left side ...

I"m seeing a chiropractor ... It's just been 8 weeks and i'm not finding much relief. Anyone else had issues or thoughts on this muscle and what to do?

In the beginning doctors thought I just had migraines, I was prescribed every major migraine med available on the market none of them worked, i've tried some other main pain meds, the most effect of course are anti-inflammatories. But I would really like to fix this and stop just trying to 'cope' or 'mask'.

Thanks,
epi

Unhelped Neck Pain
I have this same situation and am now under the care of a neurologist. They are telling me, now, that all the pain medications that we've tried over the years are the problem. They beleive now that migraine is neurological and not cerebral.. Please consider a neuro and ask about "bridge therapy". Good luck. Its not easy and i'm still doing it. Just curious why you named your post sternocleidomastoid muscle - neck
your symtoms are classic sternocleidomastoid or scm referral pain. Are you getting an aura with your migraine. Do you know what triggers your migraines - weather, hormonal, food... If your scm is involved you can do some self massage. The scm attaches from behind the ear to the collarbone and if you tilt you head to the right and then look up you can feel and see your scm. To massage you can lightly stroke each section for 30sec and then do some light squeeze. You might want to look up rehab for whiplash - alot of the stretches and strenghten exercises could possibly help

good luck

ive been having the same trouble for 18 years, yes 18 years. i went through tmj therapy(cost alot)neurologists,5 ent's,allergy dr,chriopractors and i think the chiropractor did this to me when i was 16 yrs old i get really stuffy ears, disequillibruim, off balance, headaches, sinis, sore tight neck symptoms, ringing ears, dizzy,a feeling of being stupid like foggy head. i am now in laser therapy at physio ive pretty much tried everything i only had 2 treatments and the first treatment my ears started to pop clear but the second treatment i feel a little more off balance but they said this would happen.i also had massage therapy before and wow i felt great but it would'nt last long and it was getting expensive so i'm tring laser for a longer fix. hope this helps someone because i know what i went through gor 18 years.
