Is Constipation Related to MS? Posted: 07-22-06 15:16pm
I have suffered symptoms of MS for 15
years and was diagnosed 2 years ago. I
have been having what I call "brain
farts". I am coaching a game, I am at 3rd
base with no outs. Then suddenly there are
3 outs! I have no memory of what happened
between no outs and the 3rd out. One of
my girls would shout my name and then I am
fully aware, but no memory of what has
happened. This kind of thing happens to
me more than I would like it too. Not
daily, but monthly. At first I thought it
was just a memory problem, but wife
insists I discuss this with my doc, sounds
like siezures or "blackouts", I DO NOT
DRINK. I have had to retire because of my
condition.
Secondly, I have no urge to have a BM, the
only sensation I get is more intense
burning in my hands and feet. I suffer
chronic constipation because of this. I
almost always have burning in hands and
feet anyway, it just seems to worsen.
Have you ever heard of this?
Problems with your memory and burning
sensations are probably caused by your
primary disease - multiple sclerosis. I
recommend you to take your medicines for
MS regularly and attend regular check ups
with your neurologist. Chronic
constipation is another problem that
can’t be related with MS. Chronic
constipation can be eased with a diet high
in fiber or using fiber supplements
(psyillium husks work well). in the
meantime, you can use a purgative or
laxative. If constipation continues, you
can see an internal specialist to gauge
the health and function of the colon.
