Hi,
i hada gallstone attack last week... Well I think I had. At about 7.30pm a pain started in my upper abdomen, just to the right of centre. Within 15 minutes I was rolling around I absolute agony, writhing... No position eased it at all. I can easily say that this was the worst pain I have ever experienced in my life and I have given birth twice with no pain relief! I tried the shower but I couldn't even stand up in there. This went on for over an hour until I got sick (violently) and then it eased so that I could sit still. It still took another couple of hours and lying in a warm bath before I could say I was comfortable again. I went to my gp the next day who said it sounded like gallstones but was surprised by the fact that I hadn't eaten anything fatty nor had any history of problems with eating fatty foods (though I rarely do anyway).
He organised an ultrasound scan for the next morning and there was no sign of any gallstones, everything was clean as a whistle. The doc said that the pain could have been from a gallstone passing. He said that sometimes when one has passed you can see the trace of it or it leaves the opening wider or something for a couple of days after but that he couldn't see any trace. However he still said it sounded like there had been one which is now gone.

So my question is...How likely is it that this was a once off? If I am likely to have more at some point in the future how long do they take to develop...Ie. There are none visible in there now.... Could they be back in a month? Or is it something that takes years?

I certainly don't want a repeat of that pain....

Thanks

p
