Q: Is Spotting Normal when using the Nuvaring?

I am currently on Nuvaring Birth Control and I have been spotting since I began using Nuvaring. I want to know is this normal and how long is the brown staining/spotting suppose to last?

The spotting you describe is not normal after regular use of the Nuvaring. However, if you've just begun this form of birth control, the bleeding is probably a side effect of the Nuvaring, especially if you didn't have the same problems before you started using the product. I recommend you consult your gynecologist because s/he can examine and identify possible organic reasons for the spotting. If an organic reason for the spotting is not found, and spotting continues, you may consider coming off the Nuvaring and using another form of contraception.
