Q: Will Vicodin appear on a Urinanalysis?
asked by: DoctorQuestion on July 16th, 2006
I was recently prescribed Vicodin for an infection. On a urinalysis, will this show up as Vicodin or as another drug? Would the results of the test as positive for Vicodin, be used or would that cancel out the whole test?

Vicodin is a combination of 2 painkillers: acetaminophen and hidrocodone. I was wondering why was Vicodin prescribed for infection. There might be headache and fever during some infection but in those cases, aspirin or paracetamol is usually given. Vicodin is usually given for moderate and severe pain. One has to be careful with Vicodin because of its opiate component, hidrocodone. Hidrocodone is an opiate analgesic that can cause addiction and drug abuse. You didn’t tell me why you were tested for Vicodin in your urine? And yes, hidrocodone can be detected in the urine.
