I have had crohn's for 12 years and at the present time I am in remission. I seem to have flares about once every year or two brought under control with meds. I did have one hospitalization for 6 1/2 for an obstruction/ruptured appendix, consisting of intervinous food and meds, tests, abscess drains, a resection (that's when they found I had a ruptured appendix as well as the obstruction) and a week later they had to go back in and repair the leak from the first surgery.
Anyhow to my point of this message... Anyone with crohn's have a hysterectomy? I am having other problems that suggest I should have one. One part of me thinks yes take it out I don't need anymore adomin problems and the confusion of telling the difference of if it is my crohn's or my uterous. The other part of me thinks I don't want them going in there and messing with my guts and stirring up my crohn's. I am going in to talk with they gyn this week but I would really like to hear from fellow crohnies as people with crohns understand better and know from first hand experience.
Thanks,
ssprymom

Honestly, I wouldn't let them take any more out of you unless it's proven to be severely affecting the chron's... I have a hiatal hernia that they won't fix because although it affects the chron's, messing with my insides could subsequently worsen it... Whatever your gyn says, get a second opinion from the gastro. Good luck Smile

I had to have a partial one 5 years ago. My doctor said it was a choice for I had to make. I could have the partial or have my illeum removed. I was told my right ovary's monthly swelling was causing flare ups and a partial was relieve some of the pain. I was also having three week long periods at a time. On for 3 weeks and then off for a week, the total opposite of what I should have been experiencing. If I opted for the removal of my illeum, I'd have to take shots with all the vitamins a person needs daily, as I was informed this is where all the vitamins a body needs is absorbed.

I had the partial with all the depression and self doubt a 30 year old will have with such a highly invasive surgery. It was supposed to take an hour and a half to complete, but because my intestines were so swollen and inflamed, it took 6 hours with my OB/GYN on the verge of giving up when he found my uterus.

I started to see a new GI doctor last year and got the good news that I never needed the hysterectomy in the first place. The recovering from a hysterectomy is a lot more psychiatrict than it is physical. It's also more painful than natural child birth. I beg you to go for a second and third opinion before doing it. Try to find a way to live without the procedure if you can. God bless you, for He'll never give you more than you can handle and you are stronger than you think!

My hysterectomy was for fibroids, and wasn't Crohn's related at all. Since my hysterectomy, the Crohn's is back after 38 medication-free years in remission. If I had it to do all over again, I'd live with the fibroids, and keep the Crohn's in remission.
