Q: Diagnosing Gallbladder Pain under the Breast and Ribs
asked by: DoctorQuestion on June 30th, 2006
I have been having some pain underneath my breast; about where the
top of my rib cage starts to v-down; the pain has been waking me up at night. It feels like there is something lodged there, causing it to feel like a cramp; and making it hurt to breath in. Nothing I take over the counter helps; such as pepto bismal, or rolaids. It doesn't happen every night. But we recently got back from vacation; and I ate alot of fried food such as seafood; very greasy some of it. And I don't always eat that way; and I was wondering if that didn't have something to do with it. I am just asking does this sound like my gallbladder? And should I have it checked out; or just avoid certain foods?

If the pain is located under the right rib-cage, it could be caused by the gallbladder. You can visit your GP and request an abdominal ultrasound. Some types of food containing fats can stimulate gallbladder motility.
