Hi i'm a newbie and just stumbled across this site.
I'm 38 and just been told by my doctor that he thinks i'm peri-menopausal. I went for a blood test about a month ago as I haven't had a period since easter. I did seven (yep 7 !!) pregnancy tests all which were negative.
I've always been overweight but feel like i've put on much more in recent weeks. My hair is in poor condition, very very dry and basically can't do anything with it. I feel tired most of the time, and whilst I have never considered myself to be moody, the slightest thing irritates me at the moment. I 'think' I am experiencing hot flushes and woke up the other morning so hot and sweaty I had to jump straight in the bath! I have never suffered from sweat but really feel like I am smelling despite frequent baths/showers/washes, and getting through quite a lot of impulse body spray!
I have to go back for another blood test in a couple of weeks and then am going to see the doctor.
Do all my symptoms sound like the menopause to you?
My mum was in her late 30's when she started her peri-menopause. So really time-wise it sounds about right.
Is there any truth in the fact that symptoms are much worse in people who start the menopause early?

i have since been back for another blood test. The doctor rang me last week to say the results are ....Normal ?! He cannot explain what is going on with my body right now. He says the first results definately showed signs of peri menopause. He has said he wants me to have a blood test every 3 months and we will take it from there.

Has anybody else experienced this?

Perimenopause
Hi Clare, I have recenly been diagnosed as having perimenopausal symptoms at 39. I have been on HRT for 23 years due to a condition diagnosed years ago. I get night sweats, palpitations , mood swings etc just about every symptom you read about reated to menopause. My Doctor is sending me to a specialist to have everything checked out. You may want to ask for a referral as although GPs know a bit about it they often just look up a book and give you a prescription forn hrt or take blood tests. You need to speak to someone who is expert in this area.

I have changed GP about 4 times as no-one has been able to give me an answer until the most recent GP. I suggested a specialist and she agreed. I have an appointment in April. You know your body better than anyone and you're entitled to further investigation thats what we pay our National Insurance for. Do you want me to let you know what the specialist comes up with?
