i'm on paxil for depression/anxiety and
think i'm having a symptom but don't know
if it is only in my head. My
concentration/memory seems to have
improved but my ability to understand
complex ideas seems to have diminished.
My creativity seems also to have declined.
It may be that i'm thinkin' about this
too much, I don't know. Does anyone have
thoughts? I'm afraid of changing my
brain with this drug. If I stop should
mental side effects dissipate?

Don't just stop taking your meds. Talk to
your doctor, there maybe something else
going on that needs to be looked at.

Wow! I know exactly what you're going
through. I was on paxil for 4 years on
and off, and I had exactly the same
problems. I turned into a zombie, and as
an artist, it was very distressing for me
that I could not create, nor did I even
have any interest in it. I also found it
difficult to follow complex
ideas/discussions, and would trail off mid
sentence in total confusion.
The good news is, I have recently changed
to effexor and my creativity seems to be
coming back slowly - I also am taking a
much more positive and proactive approach
to my recovery, with psychotherapy and
practical interventions such as abdominal
breathing and progressive muscle
relaxation, which have done much to
alleviate the severity of my panic
attacks.
What were your symptoms of
anxiety/depression? Perhaps changing your
medication might be the first thing to
try.
Let me know how you get on.

the paxil? Did it help your anxiety?

The paxil had the same effect on me. I
became stupid. Well, stupid for me. I
am on zoloft now and it sometimes gives me
a "state of confusion" not as often, but
it is very frustrating when it happens.
